Not many people know what goes on behind the scenes of Raccoon football after the season ends. There is a lot more to the sport than just the Friday Night Lights at the Star or Toyota Stadium that most students see. The season is always going on, with players committed to the sport year round. Off-season, as it is known after the last football game, is essential to the success of any football team.  That is why the Frisco Raccoon football team is always working their tails off rain or shine. Off-season is a predictable grind for the football team because it is designed to be repetitive.

Although the constant running and lifting in the weight room are tiring, the off-season workouts will eventually benefit the team when the fall season arrives. The difficulty of the workouts can break down mental barriers and weaknesses.  The strenuous routine teaches players to push through fatigue and pain in order to finish the game strong by the time the official season rolls around.

But more importantly, the off-season is an opportunity for teammates to bond and build relationships. Three-year veteran Carter Yates has seen the benefits of off-season. “The team has definitely gotten closer,” said Yates, “and I feel like guys are getting to know each other better.”

Players often become friends with other players they never really saw as more than teammates. Sophmore Blake May has become friends with many players on the team. “After the first week or two,” said May, “you suddenly start talking and joking with people you never really knew before.”
